Naamakaranam (Naming Ceremony) in Singapore

Naamakaranam is one of the sixteen Hindu samskaras. In this ceremony the newborn is formally given their name, and the family seeks blessings for the child's health, long life and good fortune.

When is it performed?

Naamakaranam is traditionally performed in the first weeks after the baby is born, on an auspicious day. We can advise on a suitable date.

What the ceremony usually includes

  • Ganapati pooja
  • Punyaahavaachanam (purification)
  • The naming of the child with Vedic mantras
  • Blessings for the child and family

The exact rituals depend on your family's tradition and the occasion. We will advise you on the date, the preparations and the right prayers.
